Friends of Wimbledon Park have planned nature walks in the park over the next few months.
The next ones are both on Sunday 26 April:
- a “Tree Walk”, starting at 2pm, meeting at the Home Park Road entrance. A wonderful opportunity to see the great variety of trees in the Park with Dave Dawson. This is a special time of year when trees have fresh leaves and flowers. No need to book – just turn up.
- a “Bat Walk“, at 8.15pm (sunset), starting at the watersports building – by the lake. We hope to see you there! No need to book – just turn up. Don’t worry if you are late, just find us on the lakeside path. We should finish around 9:30pm. This is a fantastic opportunity to learn how modern electronic kit can detect bat calls, and to see Common and Soprano Pipistrelles, as well as (we hope) other species.
We’ve also planned another bat walk on 26 September, starting at 18.50.
We will also organise morning walks to watch and listen to birds on the following dates: 3 May and 14 June. All starting at 8.30am at Home Park Road Entrance.
On Saturday 18th April, groups and communities across the UK took part in a UK-wide Day of Action for Nature, Parks and Green Spaces. The purpose was simple: to demonstrate, visibly and collectively, that people everywhere care deeply about the natural world and want to see it protected and restored. FOWP also put on an afternoon talk and tour, ‘Capability Brown and Wimbledon Park: A History Lesson.’
