Friends of Wimbledon Park sometimes receive complaints about noise from events (often commercial events) held in the park. We tend to forward these on to local councillors and/or Merton council officers.

Formal noise complaints requiring immediate action and/or a response should be logged with the relevant council, either online or by telephone (especially out of hours):

We believe that Merton council should be taking more steps to prevent unacceptably loud noise from commercial events in Wimbledon Park. It does not seem good enough to say that noise is “within legal limits”, which are more suited to a concert at a large stadium – Wimbledon Park is a public green space in the middle of a heavily populated residential area and people should not be expected to put up with intrusive noise in their homes.

Quite often the noise seem unnecessarily loud – e.g. music and/or public address systems at commercial events often seem too loud even for those attending these events. They seem like they could sometimes be half the volume and still loud enough for those at the event to enjoy. It sometimes seems to be the very heavy bass levels that cause the noise to travel and invade other spaces.

In order to help establish an ongoing log of noise complaints and to use this to have a conversation with Merton council about controlling noise, Friends of Wimbledon Park have now created a noise report form: https://forms.gle/9zD5ZCD1c4F1XVbD8

This form is only to help establish a pattern and frequency of complaints and should not be seen as replacing the council formal noise complaints procedures above.
